The Manila Commuter blog chronicles my trips through Metro Manila with its different modes of transportation, namely, the MRT, LRT, buses, FXs, jeepneys, tricycles, pedicabs, car, etc. Since I’m based in Quezon City, one will notice that most of my travel tales will be to and from the surrounding areas.
I’ve been traveling ’solo’ via public transportation ever since I was five years old, but I stopped when I got a car and a driver’s license. However, after several years of driving, I found it too tiring to drive through the metro, so I went back to public transportation in 2005.
Public transportation is of immense interest to me because it can give a glimpse of a country’s development and its government. That is why the picture of a man sitting nonchalantly in front of a poster of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo promising an improvement of the Philippine economy while waiting for the LRT 2 train to arrive at the Araneta Center-Cubao Station is just a well of contradictions that fills me with glee every time I see it.
And, with the current world crisis of soaring gas and diesel prices, I thought it was timely to start a blog about Metro Manila’s public and private transportation. Thus, my first post was published on 19 July 2008.
Here’s to safe and interesting trips!
