Additional Php 10 for Taxi Fare For the first time, on 19 July 2008, the cab driver informed me that there was an additional Php 10 for the taxi fare. I have no idea when it’s supposed to start officially, but I’ve been already giving beforehand the extra Php 10 for at least a week in support of the taxi drivers’ plight of soaring gas prices.

Accounting for the Taxi Fare I make sure the drivers know how much extra I’m giving so that it’s very clear I’ve paid the due amount. So before I alight, I make an accounting by stating the amount due and then saying how much extra I’m giving, while putting on their hands the corresponding bills and coins. I usually try to give plus Php 20– Php 10 for the additional fare and Php 10 for the tip.

Why The Meter Is Not Adjusted If you’re wondering why the taxis do not re-calibrate their meters for the additional Php 10, it’s because of the cost. According to one of the taxi drivers I asked, the calibration of meters will require a payment of Php 600, which, I’m sure the cab drivers will protest to vehemently if implemented by the government.

Mix and Match Strategy To cope with the higher taxi fares, I’ve employed the strategy of mix and match. So that I’ll arrive fresh for a meeting, I ride the taxi, but, going home, I ride anything else but the cab.
