Why I Like Mature Taxi Drivers

I usually like the fact when the taxi driver of the cab I’m riding is of a mature age, because they’re more likely to know the most popular destinations as well as the obscure ones. Here’s the conversation I had with the taxi driver on 24 October 2008.
“Sir, sa GSIS po tayo (Sir, please take me to the GSIS).”
“Doon po sa Main (Are you referring to the main branch)?”
Since I didn’t know if it was the main branch, I gave directions instead, “Daan po tayo sa EDSA, tapos sa Macapagal. Pagdating sa Manila Film Center, may isang daan papunta sa GSIS (Let’s pass through EDSA then through Macapagal. When we reach the Manila Film Center, there’s a road that leads to GSIS).”
“Iyon po ang Main. Katabi ng Senate. Dati sa Manila siya bago inilipat. Pero maraming branches ang GSIS. (That’s the Main Branch, which is right beside the Senate. It used to be located in Manila. GSIS has several branches.)”
Since he knew where GSIS was exactly, a building I’ve only seen on the map and never been to physically, I relaxed at the back of the cab where I was able to do minute tasks like sending SMS and writing notes. For giving me such a relaxed taxi ride and freeing me to do other things instead of giving directions, I gave him a tip of Php 30.
