FX Driver Returns Php 2

It has been my impression that the minimum fare for FXs since the recent fare hike is Php 12, so that’s the exact amount I usually give the FX driver when taking the FX from the Araneta Center station to EDSA, and no driver has given me a clue that it might be otherwise.

Except on 30 August 2008. The FX driver handed me back Php 2 in coins. I thanked him, of course.

Now, I’m confused though. My usual practice is to give the exact amount whenever possible. If I pay Php 10, some FX driver might protest that it’s not enough, and I don’t want to go through the hassle of fishing for more coins in my belt bag, because I usually have the fare ready before I board the FX.

For the moment, I’ll try to give a Php 20 bill and ascertain what’s the usual fare from Araneta Center to EDSA. If the FX driver hands me Php 10 as change on several occasions, then I’ll take it to mean that the fare is indeed Php 10.
