Bus Driver with Road Rage

As the bus passed Robinsons Galleria on 19 August 2008, the bus driver picked up speed until it came abreast another bus. Thinking it was a “friendly road race,” I expected a blast from the bus horn, which came as soon as our bus started inching faster than the other bus. However, the friendly wave and laughter were missing, which made me suspect something was amiss.

Our bus weaved dangerously through the private and public lanes, making everyone grab onto something to steady themselves.

What made me even more worried was when the bus conductor staggered his way forward and then kept silent instead of engaging the driver in banter, which would have assured me that his erratic driving was done in jest. What the bus conductor did was to remind him that there were people getting off in the next stop, which, thankfully, was my stop.

As I alighted, the bus that the bus driver seemed to be enraged about also braked to let its passengers off. I sincerely hope that this particular bus driver will not rise to the bait and endanger his passengers unnecessarily by participating in a race fueled by road rage.
