On 13 August 2008, I boarded a taxi and told the driver that I needed to go to CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines) on Roxas Blvd.
While we traversed EDSA, the taxi driver asked in Filipino if the Cinderella run had ended. I replied that it will be till late August. Inwardly, I was a bit surprised that he knew of the current Cinderella Manila run.
Then he related that he had some passengers who said that it was “maganda (very good).”
I agreed by saying that Lea Salonga was really “magaling (excellent),” and added that he might have some passengers in September 2008 who will watch West Side Story at the Meralco Theater, a structure we could both see since the taxi was on the EDSA-Ortigas flyover. I told him briefly about Joanna Ampil, who is playing Maria, and her West End achievements.
His comment was, “Ibang bansa ang nakikinabang sa galing ng mga Pilipino (It’s other countries who are benefiting from Filipinos’ talents).”
