Cubao Bus Signs Not Allowed in Ortigas Center

In the SM Megamall Building A Bus Boarding Station on 12 August 2008, I had to ascertain from the bus conductor whether the bus was going to go to Cubao because there were no signs plastered on the windshield, which I found unusual.

At the next stop, Galleria, a bus ticket inspector boarded the bus, and, when the bus conductor tried to put a sign that said Cubao Ilalim (Underpass), she immediately told him to put it down since the MMDA officials were looking.

Only once the bus was past Robinsons Galleria did the bus ticket inspector return all the usual colorful signs, with the help of the bus conductor. When a passenger inquired ‘Why?’ she explained that only signs saying Ortigas are allowed in the Ortigas Center area.

This is the first time I’ve ever heard of such an ordinance. I’ll watch out the next time the bus I’m riding on is nearing SM Megamall or Robinsons Galleria. And maybe ask the friendly bus conductor a question or two.

(Update: When the bus passed Galleria on 19 August 2008, there was no hurried movement from the bus conductor to remove the Cubao signs. Maybe whatever flimsy rule was implemented then has now been lifted. I sure hope so. It was silly in the first place.)
